Maybank Indonesia announced the upcoming World Athletics’ Elite Label Road Race Maybank Marathon 2023 happening at Bali Safari & Marine Park Gianyar on August 27, 2023.
The announcement for the Maybank Marathon 2023 in Bali took place at Maybank Indonesia’s headquarters in Senayan, Jakarta. The news shared through a press conference attended by Maybank Indonesia’s CEO, Taswin Zakaria, Maybank Marathon’s Project Director, Widya Permana, Secretary General of the Indonesian Athletics Association (PB PASI), Tigor Tanjung, sponsor partners, and representatives from the running community in Jakarta and nearby areas.
During the press conference, it revealed that registration for the Maybank Marathon 2023 in Bali will be open to the public starting Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 1:00 PM local time through the website https://www.maybank.co.id/Maybank-Marathon.
Similar to previous editions, the Maybank Marathon 2023 will feature the marathon category (42.195 km), half-marathon (21.1 km), and 10K races, along with the Children Sprint, offering a total prize pool of over IDR 2.7 billion. Race packs can be collected on August 25-26 at Taman Bhagawan Benoa, Bali.

Celebrating the 12th year of Maybank Marathon in the country, Maybank Indonesia is taking a strategic step to expand the Maybank Marathon network by collaborating with similar marathon events across Southeast Asia. This comes to life through a sister marathon partnership between Maybank Marathon and a renowned marathon event in the Southeast Asian region, the Elite Label Road Race Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon in Thailand this year.
“The sister marathon collaboration between Maybank Marathon and Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon in Thailand is Maybank Indonesia’s contribution to the growth of the athletic sports industry in Indonesia. This partnership will create significant opportunities for runner exchange between events. At the same time, it elevates the Elite Label Road Race Maybank Marathon to the level of a leading world-class marathon event in Southeast Asia, and even across Asia,” Taswin emphasized.
Moving forward, Taswin also explained that the sister marathon collaboration between Maybank Marathon and Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon is based on a shared mission: to catalyze sport tourism and empower local communities. From a tourism perspective, Maybank Marathon offers the experience of running amidst the natural beauty of Bali’s countryside, while Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon showcases the coastal views. In terms of community empowerment, Maybank Marathon engages the Bali community along the race route through a series of corporate responsibility programs, while Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon promotes the involvement of local SMEs along their race route.
During the press conference, the sister marathon collaboration between Maybank Marathon and Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon reinforced through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by Maybank Indonesia’s CEO, Taswin Zakaria, and Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon’s Race Director, Rut Jiroajvanichakorn (Rat).
In the first year of this sister marathon partnership, Maybank Indonesia will provide 40 free running slots for top finishers in the General Category (Indonesian citizens) of the Maybank Marathon 2023, who achieve the best times in the Marathon category (42.195 km), to participate in the Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon in November 2023. Likewise, 40 runners from Bangsaen42 Chonburi Marathon will have the opportunity to compete in the Maybank Marathon 2024.
Prioritizing the comfort and safety of runners at the Maybank Marathon event, Widya Permana, the Project Director of Maybank Marathon, stated, ‘Referring to the regulations set by the Government regarding the easing of public mobility, we hope this year’s Maybank Marathon will be even more vibrant. With travel becoming more accessible, we anticipate attracting more international participants to join the August 2023 Maybank Marathon in Bali. Additionally, we expect that this sister marathon collaboration will boost the sportsmanship of runners, encouraging active participation in marathon events across Southeast Asia, indirectly supporting the local economy as well.’
As preparation for Maybank Marathon 2023, Maybank Indonesia will organize the ‘Road to Maybank Marathon 2023’ series in six cities: Medan, Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Bali, and Makassar, from May to August 2023. This series includes training and education, such as running clinics, Sunday morning runs, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) & Life Support training, and other physical preparation education.
