After skipping the 2020 edition, UVJF did a very successful ‘revival’ edition in October 2021, despite all restrictions and limitations, aligned with the domestic pandemic protocols in place. Even though it was slightly smaller than the previous years, presenting only national lineups, yet, it became a milestone for the return of jazz concerts, festivals, and live music in Bali and Indonesia.
This year, UVJF is ready to jazz up the island again, for its 9th year consecutively.
Taking place at ARMA Museum, Pengosekan, Ubud on August 12th &13th 2022, we are thrilled to be able
to invite international artists again, with the travel relaxations policies and flight connections availability.
This was further strengthened by the selection of the Ubud Village Jazz Festival as one of the events that passed the Kharisma Event Nusantara as an International Scale Event from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia. This event is, of course, carried out with the provisions of the CHSE and the Covid-19 health protocol.
Among the confirmed lineups, we’ll have The Bernard Van Rossum Quartet from The Netherland. Bernard is a saxophone player who also teaches in some well-known conservatories of music in Europe (Amsterdam and Codarts). He is also the founder of a flamenco big band that gain so much positive feedback from jazz enthusiasts and critics all around the world.
Van Rossum will bring his quartet to perform his most recent project.
Sum Kim, a young, talented, and one of the most talked-about guitarists from South Korea’s new generation will also be with us. Graduated with a bachelor’s degree (under scholarship) from Berkley, and a master’s degree, Sun Kim color the Korean Jazz scene with his unique, young, and refreshing interpretations.
From Indonesia, we proudly present Tohpati, one of the most versatile and internationally acclaimed guitarist-composer-producer, who will perform with his project, Tohpati Bertiga.
As well as “magic fingers” Balawan with his Batuan Ethnic Fusion, a unique blend of Jazz, rock, and
gamelan.
The 12-year-old prodigy Gev Delano from Semarang, Central Java. Indeed, an Incredible electric bass
player. He has a masterful of his instrument like he’s been playing it professionally for 30 years. Gev will
collaborate with Bali’s young guns Krisna Dharmawan on guitar, Gede Yudistira on keys, and Grady
Boanerges on drums. Seeing these youngsters playing together is convincing us that jazz in Indonesia is
doing just fine, with beautiful days to come for our beloved music genre.
Another young band is Panacea, 1st prize winner of UPH Conservatory of Music National Jazz
Competition 2022. A very prestigious nationwide competition where incredible new talents are and will be
born every year.
There will also be Soulfeggio’s “Tribute to Natalie Cole”, Warman Sanjaya & Irsa Destiwi Project,
and Gustu Brahmanta Project among the insular artists. These Balinese and Bali-based musicians will
show if ever doubt it, that the island has numerous high-level, extremely talented musicians.
