PT Bank Maybank Indonesia, Tbk. (“Maybank Indonesia”) hosted a press conference to outline preparations for the inaugural ‘Elite’ label road race and Indonesia’s exclusive Maybank Marathon 2023, scheduled for Sunday, August 27th, 2023 at Bali Safari & Marine Park, Gianyar, Bali.
Concurrently with the second day of Race Pack Collection (“RPC”) at Taman Bhagawan Bali, the Maybank Marathon 2023 conference welcomed the presence of notable figures such as President Director Taswin Zakaria, Project Director Widya where, and Finance Director Thila Nadason from Maybank Indonesia, alongside media personnel.
“After a seven-month interval since the announcement of Maybank Marathon 2023’s commencement in January, the time has arrived to usher in the pinnacle of this event, set to unfold tomorrow, Sunday (27/8). Early morning will witness the flag-off, initiating the participation of approximately 13,600 individuals from 50 countries, including Indonesia, competing in distinct categories predetermined by the participants themselves,” shared President Director Taswin Zakaria.
The flag-off, symbolizing the beginning of Maybank Marathon 2023, will be a staged process. The Marathon category will start at 04.30 WITA, followed by the Half Marathon at 05.30 WITA, and the 10K category at 06.00 WITA. Furthermore, flag-off arrangements will be made for wheelchair and children’s sprint categories. This year, Maybank Marathon offers prizes exceeding IDR 2.7 billion for 86 winners, including record breakers.
“The heightened interest in Maybank Marathon 2023 is evident through a 37% surge in participant numbers compared to the previous year. This surge underscores the growing positive response towards running, coupled with an increased public emphasis on adopting a healthy lifestyle through sports. The role of both central and regional governmental bodies is also instrumental in encouraging participant mobility and visits to Bali,” added Taswin.
Heading into the 12th edition of Maybank Marathon, the event welcomes 11 international elite athletes, comprising 6 male and 5 female elites. Alongside these international figures, 13 domestic track athletes with impressive records, encompassing 6 male and 7 female marathon athletes, will also participate. Maybank Marathon serves as a platform for national athletes to qualify for the National Sports Week (PON), including the 2020 PON in Papua and the upcoming 2024 PON in Aceh-North Sumatra.
Addressing security, the committee detailed plans involving around 850 police personnel from Bali Regional Police and approximately 480 Pecalang personnel, hailing from the Gianyar District vicinity, to ensure safety along the Maybank Marathon 2023 route. To facilitate local traffic flow, the Bali Regional Police will execute traffic diversions along the competition route, particularly on Bypass Road IB Spells, and various country roads starting from Ketewel to Medahan.
For medical support, the Maybank Marathon 2023 committee has organized 850 marshals, around 180 paramedics, and a fleet of 30 ambulance units, including 12 ambulances, 17 motorbikes, and a standard-equipped emergency car ambulance, stationed throughout the race route.
“The paramount concern for the entire participant community lies in their safety during the Maybank Marathon. Beyond security and medical teams, we’ve deployed 45 pacers well-versed in First Aid Emergency CPR protocols to respond swiftly to emergencies,” clarified Project Director Widya Permana.
From Friday (25/8) to Saturday (26/8), Maybank Indonesia conducted the RPC, allowing participants to collect their race packs ahead of the Sunday (27/8) race. Consistent with previous years, Maybank Marathon 2023’s RPC embraced a festive atmosphere, featuring prominent Indonesian performers, Maybank’s sustainability program showcase, sponsored product booths, the Maybank Interactive Lounge, and the VIP Customers Lounge. Attendees and their families could utilize quick Response code Indonesian standard (QRIS) payments through the Maybank Indonesia M2U digital banking application at the RPC.
Adhering to the ‘You Register, You Run’ principle, Maybank Marathon 2023’s committee mandates that participants personally collect their race packs in line with the registered name and category choice. Slot transfers are prohibited, and participants may solely partake in their chosen category. This approach prioritizes participant safety. Notably, this year, face recognition technology will aid the implementation of ‘You Register, You Run’ during the race pack distribution process.
